FAQ
Dog ice cream questions
Straight answers about Pup-Ornaut freeze-dried dog ice cream, from what is in it to how to serve it.
About the ice cream
What is dog ice cream made of?
Ours starts as a short list of foods that then get freeze-dried. Banana Peanut Butter: nonfat Greek yogurt, banana and peanut butter, with the peanut butter made from dry roasted peanuts and sea salt. Pumpkin and Apple: apples, pumpkin puree and nonfat Greek yogurt. Those are the full lists.
Is Pup-Ornaut frozen?
No. Freeze-drying removes the water instead of keeping it as ice, so the pieces stay crisp at room temperature and there is nothing to melt.
Does it contain peanuts or dairy?
Banana Peanut Butter contains both peanuts and dairy. Pumpkin and Apple contains dairy. Neither is a single ingredient treat.
How big are the bags?
Banana Peanut Butter comes in a 2.5 oz bag and Pumpkin and Apple in a 1 oz bag. The recipes have very different densities: Pumpkin and Apple pieces are much lighter for their size, which is why that bag weighs less.
Are more flavors coming?
Blueberry is next in the lineup, with more flavors in development.
Where is it made?
Malvern, Pennsylvania, in small batches. Orders ship from there too.
Serving and storage
How many pieces should I give?
It depends on the flavor. Banana Peanut Butter: our training guide is 1 to 3 small pieces a session, adjusted for size and activity. Pumpkin and Apple: our feeding guide is 1 to 2 pieces a day for a small dog, 2 to 3 for a medium dog and 3 to 5 for a large dog.
Is it a meal?
No. Pup-Ornaut is a treat or reward for intermittent or supplemental feeding, not a complete diet. Keep fresh water out and supervise while your dog snacks. Break pieces smaller for small dogs. Our how to serve guide has more.
How do I store it?
Close the bag after each use and keep it somewhere cool and dry. No fridge or freezer needed.
Flavors and bundles
Is Pumpkin and Apple sold all year?
Yes. The ghost and pumpkin shapes are part of the regular lineup, not a limited run. Details are on the Pumpkin and Apple page.
What is in the Spooky Snack Pack?
Pumpkin and Apple dog ice cream, Cheddar Cheese Bites and Freeze-Dried Beef Heart, as a one-time purchase. The ice cream and the cheddar contain dairy. See the Spooky Snack Pack page.
Ordering
Where do I check out?
On the Sniff and Shift store, sniffandshift.com. Pup-Ornaut is a Sniff and Shift site, so your cart, payment and account all live there. Pup-Ornaut never sees your card details.
Can I set up a recurring order?
Yes, for either flavor. One-time purchase is always selected first. If you choose Subscribe and save and pick a frequency, the order repeats at that interval at the discount shown until you cancel, and you manage or cancel it in your Sniff and Shift account. The store's subscription terms and our cancellation policy have the details. The Spooky Snack Pack is one-time only.
