How to serve Pup-Ornaut

Our serving notes for each flavor, plus the basics of handling and storage.

Updated

How to serve Pup-Ornaut is simple: it is a crunchy freeze-dried treat, so you hand it over as is, or break it up. It is a treat or reward, not a complete diet. Both flavors contain dairy, and Banana Peanut Butter also contains peanuts.

Serving, step by step

Three steps

  1. Open the bag

Pull open the bag and offer a piece. No thawing, no scooping.

  2. Size it for your dog

Break pieces smaller for small dogs. Stay with your dog while they snack, and keep fresh water available.

  3. Reseal

    Close the bag after opening.

Serving notes by flavor

  • Banana Peanut Butter: for training, our guide is 1 to 3 small pieces per session, adjusted for your dog's size and activity. It is the richer flavor, so keep pieces small. It contains peanuts and dairy.
  • Pumpkin & Apple: our feeding guide is 1 to 2 pieces a day for small dogs, 2 to 3 for medium dogs, and 3 to 5 for large dogs. It contains dairy.

Treats should be a small share of the day. VCA says about 10 percent of daily calories can come from treats, with the rest from complete and balanced food (VCA, Dog Treats, opened 2026-10-16). Your vet can set a target. Not sure how that looks? Try a treat budget:

Storage

Close the bag after each use and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Freeze-dried foods absorb moisture easily, as University of Minnesota Extension notes, so a closed bag keeps the pieces crisp. No fridge or freezer needed. Banana Peanut Butter comes in a 2.5 oz bag and Pumpkin & Apple in a 1 oz bag; the recipes have very different densities, and the pumpkin pieces are much lighter for their size.

Allergens

Banana Peanut Butter contains peanuts and dairy. Pumpkin & Apple contains dairy. Neither is a single ingredient treat. If your dog has trouble with either, choose something else or ask your vet.
